The feast was set the candles lit | E |
The Bishop came with modest mien | F |
And one surmised was glad to sit | E |
And sup in this ancestral scene | F |
A noble haggis graced the board | G |
The Laird proposed a toast or two | H |
And ever and anon he poured | G |
His guest a glass of Mountain Dew | H |
- | |
Then to his maid the Laird gave tongue | I |
My sonsie Jean my friend is old | J |
Comparatively you are young | I |
And not so sensitive to cold | J |
Poor chiel His blood austerely beats | K |
Though it be sped by barley bree | D |
Slip half an hour between the sheets | K |
Brave lass and warm his bed a wee | D |
- | |
Said she I'll do the best I can | L |
So that his couch may cosy be | D |
And as a human warming pan | L |
Prove Highland Hospitality | D |
So hearing sounds of mild carouse | M |
As in the down she pillowed deep | N |
In half an hour I will arouse | M |
She vowed then soundly went to sleep | N |
- | |
So when the morn was amber orbed | D |
The Bishop from a dream awoke | O |
And as his parritch he absorbed | D |
Unto his host he slyly spoke | O |
Your haggis Laird was nobly bred | D |
And braw your brew of barley bree | D |
But oh your thought to warm the bed | D |
That's Highland Hospitality | D |
