That I should have a crazy crave | A |
To paint our fence | B |
Yet that is what I aim to do | C |
Though dim my sight | D |
Jest paint them aged pickets blue | C |
Or green or white | D |

Jest squat serenely in the sun | E |
Wi' brush an' paint | F |
An' gay them pickets one by one | E |
A chore It ain't | F |
The job is joy Although I'm slow | G |
I save expense | B |
So folks let me before I go | G |
Smart that ol' fence | B |

Them pickets with my hands I made | H |
When young and spry | I |
I coloured them a gleeful shade | H |
To glad the eye | I |
So now as chirpy as a boy | J |
'Ere I go hence | B |
Once more let me jest bright to joy | J |
Our picket fence | B |
