O dear little cabin I've loved you so longA
And now I must bid you good byeB
I've filled you with laughter I've thrilled you with songA
And sometimes I've wished I could cryB
Your walls they have witnessed a weariful fightC
And rung to a won WaterlooD
But oh in my triumph I'm dreary to nightC
Good bye little cabin to youD
-
Your roof is bewhiskered your floor is a slantE
Your walls seem to sag and to swingF
I'm trying to find just your faults but I can'tE
You poor tired heart broken old thingF
I've seen when you've been the best friend that I hadG
Your light like a gem on the snowH
You're sort of a part of me Gee but I'm sadG
I hate little cabin to goH
-
Below your cracked window red raspberries climbI
A hornet's nest hangs from a beamJ
Your rafters are scribbled with adage and rhymeI
And dimmed with tobacco and dreamJ
Each day has its laugh and Don't worry just workK
Such mottoes reproachfully shineL
Old calendars dangle what memories lurkK
About you dear cabin of mineL
-
I hear the world call and the clang of the fightC
I hear the hoarse cry of my kindM
Yet well do I know as I quit you to nightC
It's Youth that I'm leaving behindM
And often I'll think of you empty and blackN
Moose antlers nailed over your doorO
Oh if I should perish my ghost will come backN
To dwell in you cabin once moreO
-
How cold still and lonely how weary you seemJ
A last wistful look and I'll goH
Oh will you remember the lad with his dreamJ
The lad that you comforted soH
The shadows enfold you it's drawing to nightC
The evening star needles the skyB
And huh but it's stinging and stabbing my sightC
God bless you old cabin good byeB
