Freethinker Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AA BCBDEFEF GHGIJKJK LMNMKOKO EPEPDEDE

Although the Preacher be a boreA
The Atheist is even moreA
-
I ain't religious worth a damnB
My views are reckoned to be broadC
And yet I shut up like a clamB
When folks get figgerin' on GodD
I'd hate my kids to think like meE
And though they leave me in the lurchF
I'm always mighty glad to seeE
My fam'ly trot to ChurchF
-
Although of books I have a shelfG
Of skeptic stuff I must confessH
I keep their knowledge to myselfG
Doubt doesn't help to happinessI
I never scoff at Holy WritJ
But envy those who hold it trueK
And though I've never been in itJ
I'm proud to own a pewK
-
I always was a doubting TomL
I guess some lads are born that wayM
I couldn't stick religion fromN
The time I broke the Sabbath DayM
Yet unbelief's a bitter brewK
And this in arid ways I've learnedO
If you believe a thing it's trueK
As far as your concernedO
-
I'm sentimental I agreeE
For how it always makes me gladP
To turn from Ingersoll and seeE
My little girls Communion cladP
And as to church my people plodD
I cry to them with simple gleeE
Say folks if you should talk to GodD
Put in a word for meE
