Flight Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH IJIJBGBG KEKELDLD CMNMBEIE

On silver sand where ripples curledA
I counted sea gulls sevenB
Shy secret screened from all the worldA
And innocent as heavenB
They did not of my nearness knowC
For dawn was barely brightD
And they were still like spots of snowC
In that pale pearly lightD
-
Then one went forth unto the seaE
That rippled up in goldF
And there were rubies flashing freeE
From out its wing unfoldF
It ducked and dived in pretty playG
The while the other sixH
So gravely sat it seemed that theyG
Were marvelled by its tricksH
-
Then with a sudden flurry eachI
Down rushed to join its mateJ
And in a flash that sickle beachI
With rapture was elateJ
With joy they pranked till everyoneB
Was diamonded with sprayG
Then flicked with flame to greet the sunB
They rose and winged awayG
-
But with their going oh the surgeK
Of loss they left in meE
For in my heart was born the urgeK
The passion to be freeE
And where each dawn with terror bringsL
Some tale of bale and blightD
Who would not envy silver wingsL
The sea gull in its flightD
-
Let me not know the soils of woeC
That chain this stricken earthM
Let me forget the fear and fretN
That bind men from their birthM
Let me be the one with wind and sunB
With earth and sky and seaE
Oh let me teach in living speechI
God's glory LibertyE
