Failure Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CCDD EEFG HHI JJKL

He wrote a play by day and nightA
He strove with passion and delightA
Yet knew long ere the curtain dropB
His drama was a sorry flopB
-
In Parliament he sought a seatC
Election Day brought dire defeatC
Yet he had wooed with word and penD
Prodigiously his fellow menD
-
And then he wrote a lighter playE
That made him famous in a dayE
He won a seat in ParliamentF
And starry was the way he wentG
-
Yet as he neared the door of deathH
They heard him say with broken breathH
'For all I've spoken planned and pennedI
I'm just a wash out in the end '-
-
So are we all our triumphs wonJ
Are mean by what we might have doneJ
Our victories that men applaudK
Are sordid in the sight of GodL
