Expectation Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABAB ABABAB ABABAB ABABABMy flask of wine was ruby red | A |
And swift I ran my sweet to see | B |
With eyes that snapped delight I said | A |
How mad with love a lad can be | B |
The moon was laughing overhead | A |
I danced as nimbly as a flea | B |
- | |
Thought I In two weeks time we'll wed | A |
No more a lonesome widow she | B |
For I have bought a double bed | A |
And I will father children three | B |
So singing like a lark I sped | A |
To her who ne'er expected me | B |
- | |
And then I went with wary tread | A |
Her sweet surprise to greet with glee | B |
To where her lamplit lattice shed | A |
A rosy radiance on the lea | B |
And then my heart sank low like lead | A |
Two shadows on the blind to see | B |
- | |
A man was sitting on the bed | A |
And she was nudely on his knee | B |
I saw her face drain white with dread | A |
I saw her lover madly flee | B |
Oh how her blood is ruby red | A |
And I await the gallows tree | B |
