Dance-hall Girls Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABACAC DEDEFGFC HIHJCKCK GLGLMNMMN

Where are the dames I used to knowA
In Dawson in the days of yoreB
Alas it's fifty years agoA
And most I guess have gone beforeB
The swinging scythe is swift to mowA
Alike the gallant and the fairC
And even I with gouty toeA
Am glad to fill a rocking chairC
-
Ah me I fear each gaysome girlD
Who in champagne I used to toastE
or cozen in the waltz's whirlD
In now alas a wistful ghostE
Oh where is Touch The Button NellF
Or Minnie Dale or Rosa LeeG
Or Lorna Doone or Daisy BellF
And where is Montreal MareeC
-
Fair ladies of my lusty youthH
I fear that you are dead and goneI
Where's Gertie of the Diamond ToothH
And where the Mare of OregonJ
What's come of Violet de VereC
Claw fingered Kate and Gumboot SueK
They've crossed the Great Divide I fearC
Remembered now by just a fewK
-
A few who like myself can seeG
Through half a century of hazeL
A heap of goodness in their gleeG
And kindness in their wanton waysL
Alas my sourdough days are deadM
Yet let me toss a tankard downN
Here's hoping that you wed and bredM
And lives of circumspection ledM
Gay dance hall girls o Dawson TownN
