Cowardice Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDD EFEFDD GHGHII JKJKAC

Although you deem it far from niceA
And it perchance may hurt youB
Let me suggest that cowardiceC
Can masquerade as virtueB
And many a maid remains a maidD
Because she is afraidD
-
And many a man is chaste becauseE
He fears the house of sinF
And though before the door he pauseE
He dare not enter inF
So worse than being dissoluteD
At home he plays the fluteD
-
And many an old cove such as IG
Is troubled with the jittersH
And being as he's scared to dieG
Gives up his gin and bittersH
While dreading stomach ulcers heI
Chucks dinner for high teaI
-
Well we are wise When life beginsJ
To look so dour and darkK
'Tis good to jettison our sinsJ
And keep afloat the barkK
But don't let us claim lack of viceA
For what's plumb cowardiceC
