Contentment Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EDEDFCF GHGHIJI CHCHIHIH

An Ancient gaffer once I knewA
Who puffed a pipe and tossed a tankardB
He claimed a hundred years or twoA
And for a dozen more he hankeredB
So o'er a pint I asked how heC
Had kept his timbers tight togetherD
He grinned and answered It maun beC
Because I likes all kinds o' weatherD
-
Fore every morn when I get upE
I lights my clay pipe wi' a cinderD
And as me mug o' tea I supE
I looks from out the cottage winderD
And if it's shade or if it's shineF
Or wind or snow befit to freeze meC
I always say 'Well now that's fineF
It's just the sorto' day to please me '-
-
For I have found it wise in lifeG
To take the luck the way it's comingH
A wake a worry or a wifeG
Just carry on and keep a hummingH
And so I lights me pipe o' clayI
And through the morn on blizzard bordersJ
I chuckle in me guts and sayI
'It's just the day the doctor orders '-
-
A mighty good philosophyC
Thought I and leads to longer livingH
To make the best of things that beC
And take the weather of God's givingH
So though the sky be ashen greyI
And winds be edged and sleet be slantingH
Heap faggots on the fire and sayI
It's just the kind of day I'm wantingH
