Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD DEDEFGFG DDDDDDDD HIHIDDDDD

He used to say There ain't a doubtA
Misfortune is a bitter pillB
But if you only pry it outA
You'll find there's good in every illB
There's comfort in the worst of woeC
There's consolation in defeatD
Oh what a solace seeker SoC
We called him Compensation PeteD
-
He lost his wealth but was he pippedD
Why no That's fine he used to sayE
I've got the government plumb gyppedD
No more damn income tax to payE
From cares of property set freeF
And with no pesky social tiesG
Why even poverty may beF
A benediction in disguiseG
-
He lost his health Okay he saidD
I'm getting on may be the bestD
I've always loved to lie abedD
And now I have the right to restD
Such heaps o' things I want to doD
I'll have no time to fret or broodD
I'll read the dam ol' Bible throughD
Guess it'll do me plenty goodD
-
He has that line of sunny shineH
That makes a blessing of a curseI
And he would say Don't let's repineH
Though things are bad they might be worseI
And so he cherished to the endD
Philosophy so sane and sweetD
That everybody was his friendD
With optimism hard to beatD
God bless old Compensation PeteD
