Compassion Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDD EEFFGGHH FFIIGGHH

What puts me in a rage isA
The sight of cursed cagesA
Where singers of the skyB
Perch hop instead of flyB
Where lions to and froC
Pace seven yards or soC
I who love space of starsD
Have hate of barsD
-
I wince to see dogs chainedE
Or horses bit restrainedE
Or men of feeble mindF
In straight jackets confinedF
Or convicts in black cellsG
Enduring earthly hellsG
To me not to be freeH
Is fiendish crueltyH
-
To me not to be kindF
Is evil of the mindF
No need to pray or preachI
Let us our children teachI
With every fond caressG
Pity and gentlenessG
So in the end may weH
God's Kingdom bring to beH
