Clemenceau Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHG IJIJKLKL MGMGNOP

His frown brought terror to his foesA
But now in twilight of his daysB
The pure perfection of a roseA
Can kindle rapture in his gazeB
Where once he swung the sword of wrathC
And peoples trembled at his wordD
With hoe he trims a pansied pathC
And listens to a birdD
-
His large of life was lived with noiseE
With war and strife and crash of kingsF
But now he hungers for the joysE
Of peace and hush of homely thingsF
His old dog nuzzles by his kneeG
And seems to say 'Oh Master dearH
Please do not ever part from meG
We are so happy here '-
-
His ancient maid as sky draws dimI
Calls to him that the soup grows coldJ
She tyrannises over himI
Who once held armies in his holdJ
With slippers old skull cap and shawlK
He dreams and dozes by the fireL
Sighing 'Behold the end of allK
Sweet rest my sole desireL
-
'My task is done my pen is stillM
My Book is there for all to seeG
The final triumph of my willM
Ineffably my victoryG
A Tiger once but now a lambN
With frailing hand my gate I closeO
How hushed my heart My life how calmP
Its crown a Rose '-
