Charity Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACDD CCCCDD EFEFBB GCGCCC CBCBCC

The Princess was of ancient lineA
Of royal race was sheB
Like cameo her face was fineA
With sad serentiyC
Yet bent she toiled with dimming eyeD
Her rice and milk to buyD
-
With lacework that for pity pleadC
So out of date it seemedC
She sought to make her daily breadC
As of her past she dreamedC
And though sometimes I heard her sighD
I never knew her cryD
-
Her patient heart was full of hopeE
For health she gave God thanksF
Till one day in an envelopeE
I sealed a thousand francsF
And 'neath her door for her to seeB
I slipped it secretlyB
-
'Twas long after I came to knowG
My gift she never spentC
But gave to one of greater woeG
And wearily she wentC
To be of charity a partC
That stabbed her to the heartC
-
For one dark day we found her deadC
Oh she was sweet to seeB
Exalted in her garret bedC
With face like ivoryB
Aye though from lack of food she diedC
Unflawed she flagged her prideC
