Birthdays Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCBCB DEDEFGFG AHAHIBIB JBJBKAKA

Let us have birthdays every dayA
I had the thought while I was shavingB
Because a birthday should be gayA
And full of grace and good behavingB
We can't have cakes and candles brightC
And presents are beyond our givingB
But let lt us cherish with delightC
The birthday way of lovely livingB
-
For I have passed three score and tenD
And I can count upon my fingersE
The years I hope to bide with menD
Though by God's grace one often lingersE
So in the summers left to meF
Because I'm blest beyond my meritG
I hope with gratitude and gleeF
To sparkle with the birthday spiritG
-
Let me inform myself each dayA
Who's proudmost on the natal rosterH
If Washington or Henry ClayA
Or Eugene Field or Stephen FosterH
oh lots of famous folks I'll findI
Who more than measure to my ratingB
And so thanksgivingly inclinedI
Their birthdays I'll be celebratingB
-
For Oh I know the cheery glowJ
Of Anniversary rejoicingB
Let me reflect its radiance soJ
My daily gladness I'll be voicingB
And though I'm stooped and silver hairedK
Let me with laughter make the hearth gayA
So by the gods I may be sparedK
Each year to hear Pop Happy BirthdayA
