Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH IDIDJKJKBetween the cliff rise and the beach | A |
A slip of emerald I own | B |
With fig and olive almond peach | A |
cherry and plum tree overgrown | B |
Glad watered by a crystal spring | C |
That carols through the silver night | D |
And populous with birds who sing | C |
Gay madrigals for my delight | D |
- | |
Some merchants fain would buy my land | E |
To build a stately pleasure dome | F |
Poor fools they cannot understand | E |
how pricelessly it is my home | F |
So luminous with living wings | G |
So musical with feathered joy | H |
Not for all pleasure fortune brings | G |
Would I such ecstasy destroy | H |
- | |
A thousand birds are in my grove | I |
Melodious from morn to night | D |
My fruit trees are their treasure trove | I |
Their happiness is my delight | D |
And through the sweet and shining days | J |
They know their lover and their friend | K |
So I will shield in peace and praise | J |
My innocents unto the end | K |
