Bird Sanctuary Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH IDIDJKJK

Between the cliff rise and the beachA
A slip of emerald I ownB
With fig and olive almond peachA
cherry and plum tree overgrownB
Glad watered by a crystal springC
That carols through the silver nightD
And populous with birds who singC
Gay madrigals for my delightD
-
Some merchants fain would buy my landE
To build a stately pleasure domeF
Poor fools they cannot understandE
how pricelessly it is my homeF
So luminous with living wingsG
So musical with feathered joyH
Not for all pleasure fortune bringsG
Would I such ecstasy destroyH
-
A thousand birds are in my groveI
Melodious from morn to nightD
My fruit trees are their treasure troveI
Their happiness is my delightD
And through the sweet and shining daysJ
They know their lover and their friendK
So I will shield in peace and praiseJ
My innocents unto the endK
