Novemberishly dark are they | C |
With mortuary fear | E |
- | |
For half a century has gone | F |
Since first I rang a rhyme | G |
And that is long to linger on | H |
The tolerance of Time | G |
This blue veined hand with which I write | I |
Yet answers to my will | J |
Though four score years I count to night | I |
I am unsilent still | J |
- | |
Senile old fool I hear you say | C |
Beside the dying fire | K |
You huddle and stiff fingered play | C |
Your tired and tinny lyre | L |
Well though your patience I may try | M |
Bear with me yet awhile | N |
And though you scorn my singing I | M |
Will thank you with a smile | N |
- | |
For I such soul delighting joy | O |
Have found in simple rhyme | G |
Since first a happy hearted boy | O |
I coaxed a word to chime | G |
That ere I tryst with Mother Earth | A |
Let from my heart arise | P |
A song of youth and starry mirth | A |
Then close my eyes | P |
