Babette Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDED EFEFADAD GHIHJDKD LALALDLD MBMBEDCD MNMNEDEDD

My Lady is dancing so lightlyA
The belle of the Embassy BallB
I lied as I kissed her politelyA
And hurried away from it allB
I'm taxiing up to MontmartreC
With never a pang of regretD
To toy for awhile with the garterE
Of her whom I know as BabetteD
-
My Lady's an exquisite creatureE
As rare as a queen on a throneF
She's faultless in form and in featureE
But oh she is cold as a stoneF
And so from her presence I hurryA
Her iciness quick to forgetD
In sensuous joy as I buryA
My face in the breast of BabetteD
-
She's only a flower of the pavementG
With Paris and Spring in her eyesH
Yet I who foresaw what the grave meantI
Of passion behold with surpriseH
When she greets me as gay as a linnetJ
Afar from life's fever and fretD
I'm twenty years younger the minuteK
I enter the room of BabetteD
-
The poor little supper she offersL
Is more than a banquet to meA
A different bif tik she proffersL
Pommes frit and a morsel of BrieA
We finish with coffee and kissesL
Then sit on the sofa and petD
At the Embassy Mumm never missesL
But pinard's my drink with BabetteD
-
Somehow and somewhere to my thinkingM
There's a bit of apache in us allB
In bistros I'd rather be drinkingM
Than dance at the Embassy BallB
How often I feel I would barterE
My place in the social setD
To roam in a moonlit MontmartreC
Alone with my little BabetteD
-
I'm no longer young and I'm greyingM
I'm tailored top hatted kid glovedN
And though in dark ways i be strayingM
It's heaven to love and belovedN
The passion of youth to re captureE
My Lady's perfection and yetD
When I kiss her I think of the raptureE
I find in the charms of BabetteD
Entwined in the arms of BabettteD
