Atoll Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFE FGHGIJKJ HBLBMNON FBPBQRRR

The woes of men beyond my kenA
Mean nothing more to meB
Behold my world and Eden hurledC
From Heaven to the SeaB
A jeweled home in fending foamD
Tempestuously tossedE
A virgin isle none dare defileF
Far flung forgotten lostE
-
And here I dwell where none may tellF
Me tales of mortal strifeG
Let millions die immune am IH
And radiant with lifeG
No echo comes of evil drumsI
To vex my dawns divineJ
Aloof alone I hold my throneK
And Majesty is mineJ
-
Ghost ships pass by and glad am IH
They make no sign to meB
The green corn springs the gilt vine clingsL
The net is in the seaB
My paradise around me liesM
Remote from wrath and wrongN
My isle is clean unsought unseenO
And innocent with songN
-
Here let me dwell in beauty's spellF
As tranquil as a treeB
Here let me bide where wind and tideP
Bourdon that I am freeB
Here let me know from human woeQ
The rapture of releaseR
The rich caress of LovelinessR
The plenitude of PeaceR

Angus McDonald: Robbie Burns once described his own writing: “Tho hamely in attire, may touch the heart”, and I think Service is his equal.
