Artist Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDED FGFGHIHI IJIJIKIK AIAILMLM

He gave a picture exhibitionA
Hiring a little empty shopB
Above its window FREE ADMISSIONA
Cajoled the passers by to stopB
Just to admire no need to purchaseC
Although his price might have been lowD
But no proud artist ever urgesE
Potential buyers at his showD
-
Of course he badly needed moneyF
But more he needed moral aidG
Some people thought his pictures funnyF
Too ultra modern I'm afraidG
His painting was experimentalH
Which no poor artist can affordI
That is if he would pay the rentalH
And guarantee his roof and boardI
-
And so some came and saw and sniggeredI
And some a puzzled brow would creaseJ
And some objected Well I'm jiggeredI
What price Picasso and MatisseJ
The artist sensitively quiveredI
And stifled many a bitter sighK
But day by day his hopes were shiveredI
For no one ever sought to buyK
-
And then he had a brilliant notionA
Half of his daubs he labeled SOLDI
And lo he viewed with queer emotionA
A public keen and far from coldI
Then strange it is beyond the tellingL
He saw the people round him pressM
His paintings went they still are sellingL
Well nothing succeeds like successM
