A Verseman's Apology Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABACAC DEDEFCGC HIHIJCKKC

Alas I am only a rhymerA
I don't know the meaning of ArtB
But I learned in my little school primerA
To love Eugene Field and Bret HarteB
I hailed Hoosier Ryley with pleasureA
To John Hay I took off my hatC
These fellows were right to my measureA
And I've never gone higher than thatC
-
The Classics Well most of them bore meD
The Moderns I don't understandE
But I keep Burns my kinsman before meD
And Kipling my friend is at handE
They taught me my trade as I know itF
Yet though at their feet I have satC
For God sake don't call me a poetG
For I've never been guilty of thatC
-
A rhyme rustler rugged and shamelessH
A Bab Balladeer on the looseI
Of saccarine sonnets I'm blamelessH
My model has been Mother GooseI
And I fancy my grave digger gripingJ
As he gives my last lodging a patC
This guy wrote McGrewK
'Twas the best he could doK
So I'll go to my maker with thatC
