A Song Of Winter Weather Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDEEDDD FGFGEHIIHHH JKJKELEELLL LHMHEDEEHLD

It isn't the foe that we fearA
It isn't the bullets that whineB
It isn't the business careerA
Of a shell or the bust of a mineB
It isn't the snipers who seekC
To nip our young hopes in the budD
No it isn't the gunsE
And it isn't the HunsE
It's the MUDD
MUDD
MUDD
-
It isn't the melee we mindF
That often is rather good funG
It isn't the shrapnel we findF
Obtrusive when rained by the tonG
It isn't the bounce of the bombsE
That gives us a positive painH
It's the strafing we getI
When the weather is wetI
It's the RAINH
RAINH
RAINH
-
It isn't because we lack gritJ
We shrink from the horrors of warK
We don't mind the battle a bitJ
In fact that is what we are forK
It isn't the rum jars and thingsE
Make us wish we were back in the foldL
It's the fingers that freezeE
In the boreal breezeE
It's the COLDL
COLDL
COLDL
-
Oh the rain the mud and the coldL
The cold the mud and the rainH
With weather at zero it's hard for a heroM
From language that's rude to refrainH
With porridgy muck to the kneesE
With sky that's a pouring a floodD
Sure the worst of our foesE
Are the pains and the woesE
Of the RAINH
THE COLDL
AND THE MUDD
