A Character Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFFGGHH IIJJKKLAA

How often do I wish I wereA
What people call a characterA
A ripe and cherubic old chappieB
Who lives to make his fellows happyB
With in his eyes a merry twinkleC
And round his lips a laughing wrinkleC
Who radiating hope and cheerD
Grows kindlier with every yearD
For this ideal let me striveE
And keep the lad in me aliveE
Nor argument nor anger knowF
But my own way serenly goF
The woes of men to understandG
Yet walk with humour hand in handG
To love each day and wonder whyH
Folks are not so jocund as IH
-
So be you simple decent kindI
With gentle heart and quiet mindI
And if to righteous anger stungJ
Restrain your temper and your toungueJ
Let thought for others be your guideK
And patience triumph over prideK
With charity for those who errL
Live life so folks may say you wereA
God bless your heart A CharacterA
