SOMETHINGB
-
How long I have wished for something I know wellC
But what that something is I cannot tellC
-
So often at sunrise in sad tears I wakeD
Shivering with longing for its sakeD
-
So often at noontide when the house is stillE
It sickens me with its unbidden illE
-
So often at twilight it does not seem farF
Not further than the first and far off starF
-
All all my life is built towards its tokenG
Yet by its near far offness I am brokenG
-
For I am ever under something's spellC
But what that something is I cannot tellC

A WANDERING THINGB
-
The hopeless rain a sigh a shadowH
Falters and drifts again again over the meadowH
It wanders lost drifts hither thitherF
It blows it goes it knows not whitherF
-
A profound grief an unknown sorrowF
Wanders always my strange life thoro'F
I know not ever what brings it hitherF
Nor whence it comes nor goes it whitherF

MODERN LOVE SONGI
-
Now that the evenfall is comeJ
And the sun fills the flaring treesK
And everything is mad lit dumbJ
And in the pauses of the breezeK
A far voice seems to call me homeL
To haven beyond woods and leasK
-
I feel again how sharply stingsM
The spell which binds our troubled dustN
With hint of divine frustrated thingsM
The Soul's deep doubt and desperate trustN
That She at sunset shall find wingsM
To bear her beyond NOW and MUSTN
-
So place your head against my headO
And set your lips upon my lipsP
That so I may be comfortedQ
For Ah the world so from me slipsP
To the World Sunset I am spedO
Where Soul and Silence come to gripsP
And Love stands sore astonishedR
