The Pilgrim Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AA BC DD EE FF GG HH AA

Put by the sun my joyful soulA
We are for darkness that is wholeA
-
Put by the wine now for long yearsB
We must be thirsty with salt tearsC
-
Put by the rose bind thou insteadD
The fiercest thorns about thy headD
-
Put by the courteous tire we needE
But the poor pilgrim's blackest weedE
-
Put by a'beit with tears thy luteF
Sing but to God or else be muteF
-
Take leave of friends save such as dareG
Thy love with Loneliness to shareG
-
It is full tide Put by regretH
Turn turn away Forget ForgetH
-
Put by the sun my lightless soulA
We are for darkness that is wholeA
