Farewell Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABB CDCAD AEAFG HIHII AAAAAFor the last time maybe upon the knoll | A |
I stand The eve is golden languid sad | B |
Day like a tragic actor plays his role | A |
To the last whispered word and falls gold clad | B |
I too take leave of all I ever had | B |
- | |
They shall not say I went with heavy heart | C |
Heavy I am but soon I shall be free | D |
I love them all but oh I now depart | C |
A little sadly strangely fearfully | A |
As one who goes to try a mystery | D |
- | |
The bell is sounding down in Dedham vale | A |
Be still O bell too often standing here | E |
When all the air was tremulous fine and pale | A |
Thy golden note so calm so still so clear | F |
Out of my stony heart has struck a tear | G |
- | |
And now tears are not mine I have release | H |
From all the former and the later pain | I |
Like the mid sea I rock in boundless peace | H |
Soothed by the charity of the deep sea rain | I |
Calm rain Calm sea Calm found long sought in vain | I |
- | |
O bronzen pines evening of gold and blue | A |
Steep mellow slope brimmed twilit pools below | A |
Hushed trees still vale dissolving in the dew | A |
Farewell Farewell There is no more to do | A |
We have been happy Happy now I go | A |
