At The Wars Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFFGGHHGGII JJKKGG LLMMKNOO JJPPHHQAPP

Now that I am ta'en awayA
And may not see another dayA
What is it to my eye appearsB
What sound rings in my stricken earsB
Not even the voice of any friendC
Or eyes beloved world without endC
But scenes and sounds of the country sideD
In far England across the tideD
An upland field when spring's begunE
Mellow beneath the evening sunE
A circle of loose and lichened wallF
Over which seven red pines fallF
An orchard of wizen blossoming treesG
Wherein the nesting chaffinchesG
Begin again the self same songH
All the late April day time longH
Paths that lead a shelving courseG
Between the chalk scarp and the gorseG
By English downs and oh too wellI
I hear the hidden clanking bellI
Of wandering sheep I see the brownJ
Twilight of the huge empty downJ
Soon blotted out for now a laneK
Glitters with warmth of May time rainK
And on a shooting briar I seeG
A yellow bird who sings to meG
-
O yellow hammer once I heardL
Thy yaffle when no other birdL
Could to my sunk heart comfort bringM
But now I could not have thee singM
So sharp thy note is with the painK
Of England I may not see againN
Yet sing thy song there answerethO
Deep in me a voice which saithO
-
-
'The gorse upon the twilit downJ
The English loam so sunset brownJ
The bowed pines and the sheep bells' clamourP
The wet lit lane and the yellow hammerP
The orchard and the chaffinch songH
Only to the Brave belongH
And he shall lose their joy for ayeQ
If their price he cannot payA
Who shall find them dearer farP
Enriched by blood alter long warP
'-
