To N. V. De G. S. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQLRS ST

THE UNFATHOMABLE sea and time and tearsA
The deeds of heroes and the crimes of kingsB
Dispart us and the river of eventsC
Has for an age of years to east and westD
More widely borne our cradles Thou to meE
Art foreign as when seamen at the dawnF
Descry a land far off and know not whichG
So I approach uncertain so I cruiseH
Round thy mysterious islet and beholdI
Surf and great mountains and loud river barsJ
And from the shore hear inland voices callK
Strange is the seaman s heart he hopes he fearsL
Draws closer and sweeps wider from that coastM
Last his rent sail refits and to the deepN
His shattered prow uncomforted puts backO
Yet as he goes he ponders at the helmP
Of that bright island where he feared to touchQ
His spirit readventures and for yearsL
Where by his wife he slumbers safe at homeR
Thoughts of that land revisit him he seesS
The eternal mountains beckon and awakesS
Yearning for that far home that might have beenT
