Death, To The Dead For Evermore Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAACDCD DEEFEGHFG FEFEFEE

DEATH to the dead for evermoreA
A King a God the last the best of friendsB
Whene'er this mortal journey endsB
Death like a host comes smiling to the doorA
Smiling he greets us on that tranquil shoreA
Where neither piping bird nor peeping dawnC
Disturbs the eternal sleepD
But in the stillness far withdrawnC
Our dreamless rest for evermore we keepD
-
For as from open windows forth we peepD
Upon the night time star besetE
And with dews for ever wetE
So from this garish life the spirit peersF
And lo as a sleeping city death outspreadE
Where breathe the sleepers evenly and loG
After the loud wars triumphs trumpets tearsH
And clamour of man's passion Death appearsF
And we must rise and goG
-
Soon are eyes tired with sunshine soon the earsF
Weary of utterance seeing all is saidE
Soon racked by hopes and fearsF
The all pondering all contriving headE
Weary with all things wearies of the yearsF
And our sad spirits turn toward the deadE
And the tired child the body longs for bedE
