Behold, As Goblins Dark Of Mien Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDED FGFG HAIA JKJK LMLM

BEHOLD as goblins dark of mienA
And portly tyrants dyed with crimeB
Change in the transformation sceneA
At Christmas in the pantomimeB
-
Instanter at the prompter's coughC
The fairy bonnets them and theyD
Throw their abhorred carbuncles offE
And blossom like the flowers in MayD
-
So mankind to angelic eyesF
So through the scenes of life belowG
In life's ironical disguiseF
A travesty of man ye goG
-
But fear not ere the curtain fallH
Death in the transformation sceneA
Steps forward from her pedestalI
Apparent as the fairy QueenA
-
And coming frees you in a triceJ
From all your lendings lust of fameK
Ungainly virtue ugly viceJ
Terror and tyranny and shameK
-
So each at last himself for goodL
In that dear country lays him downM
At last beloved and understoodL
And pure in feature and renownM
