To Prince Charles Upon His Coming To Exeter Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCDDEEFGHHIIAAJJ

What fate decreed time now has made us seeA
A renovation of the west by theeA
That preternatural fever which did threatB
Death to our country now hath lost his heatC
And calms succeeding we perceive no moreD
Th' unequal pulse to beat as heretoforeD
Something there yet remains for thee to doE
Then reach those ends that thou wast destin'd toE
Go on with Sylla's fortune let thy fateF
Make thee like him this that way fortunateG
Apollo's image side with thee to blessH
Thy war discreetly made with white successH
Meantime thy prophets watch by watch shall prayI
While young Charles fights and fighting wins the dayI
That done our smooth paced poems all shall beA
Sung in the high doxology of theeA
Then maids shall strew thee and thy curls from themJ
Receive with songs a flowery diademJ
