Bid me to live and I will liveA
Thy Protestant to beB
Or bid me love and I will giveC
A loving heart to theeB
-
A heart as soft a heart as kindD
A heart as sound and freeB
As in the whole world thou canst findD
That heart I'll give to theeB
-
Bid that heart stay and it will stayE
To honour thy decreeB
Or bid it languish quite awayE
And 't shall do so for theeB
-
Bid me to weep and I will weepF
While I have eyes to seeB
And having none yet I will keepF
A heart to weep for theeB
-
Bid me despair and I'll despairG
Under that cypress treeB
Or bid me die and I will dareG
E'en death to die for theeB
-
Thou art my life my love my heartH
The very eyes of meB
And hast command of every partH
To live and die for theeB

Robert Herrick
