His Return To London Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEEFGHIJKLMDDNNOP

From the dull confines of the drooping westA
To see the day spring from the pregnant eastB
Ravish'd in spirit I come nay more I flyC
To thee blest place of my nativityD
Thus thus with hallow'd foot I touch the groundE
With thousand blessings by thy fortune crown'dE
O fruitful Genius that bestowest hereF
An everlasting plenty year by yearG
O place O people manners framed to pleaseH
All nations customs kindreds languagesI
I am a free born Roman suffer thenJ
That I amongst you live a citizenK
London my home is though by hard fate sentL
Into a long and irksome banishmentM
Yet since call'd back henceforward let me beD
O native country repossess'd by theeD
For rather than I'll to the west returnN
I'll beg of thee first here to have mine urnN
Weak I am grown and must in short time fallO
Give thou my sacred reliques burialP
