Lord thou hast given me a cellA
Wherein to dwellA
A little house whose humble roofB
Is weather proofB
Under the spars of which I lieC
Both soft and dryC
Where thou my chamber for to wardD
Hast set a guardE
Of harmless thoughts to watch and keepF
Me while I sleepF
Low is my porch as is my fateG
Both void of stateG
And yet the threshold of my doorH
Is worn by th' poorI
Who thither come and freely getJ
Good words or meatK
Like as my parlour so my hallL
And kitchen's smallL
A little buttery and thereinM
A little binM
Which keeps my little loaf of breadN
Unchipt unfleadN
Some brittle sticks of thorn or briarO
Make me a fireO
Close by whose living coal I sitN
And glow like itN
Lord I confess too when I dineP
The pulse is thineP
And all those other bits that beQ
There placed by theeQ
The worts the purslain and the messR
Of water cressR
Which of thy kindness thou hast sentN
And my contentN
Makes those and my beloved beetN
To be more sweetN
'Tis thou that crown'st my glittering hearthS
With guiltless mirthT
And giv'st me wassail bowls to drinkU
Spiced to the brinkU
Lord 'tis thy plenty dropping handN
That soils my landN
And giv'st me for my bushel sownV
Twice ten for oneW
Thou mak'st my teeming hen to layX
Her egg each dayX
Besides my healthful ewes to bearY
Me twins each yearZ
The while the conduits of my kineW
Run cream for wineW
All these and better thou dost sendN
Me to this endN
That I should render for my partN
A thankful heartN
Which fired with incense I resignW
As wholly thineW
But the acceptance that must beQ
My Christ by TheeQ
