Not To Keep Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJKLM NOPQARSTHU

They sent him back to her The letter cameA
Saying And she could have him And beforeB
She could be sure there was no hidden illC
Under the formal writing he was in her sightD
Living They gave him back to her aliveE
How else They are not known to send the deadF
And not disfigured visibly His faceG
His hands She had to look and askH
What was it dear And she had given allI
And still she had all they had they the luckyJ
Wasn't she glad now Everything seemed wonK
And all the rest for them permissible easeL
She had to ask What was it dearM
-
EnoughN
Yet not enough A bullet through and throughO
High in the breast Nothing but what good careP
And medicine and rest and you a weekQ
Can cure me of to go again The sameA
Grim giving to do over for them bothR
She dared no more than ask him with her eyesS
How was it with him for a second trialT
And with his eyes he asked her not to askH
They had given him back to her but not to keepU
