Love And A Question Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFE GHI JKL MNON PQRQ STUT VKWK

A stranger came to the door at eveA
And he spoke the bridegroom fairB
He bore a green white stick in his handC
And for all burden careB
He asked with the eyes more than the lipsD
For a shelter for the nightE
And he turned and looked at the road afarF
Without a window lightE
-
The bridegroom came forth into the porchG
With 'Let us look at the skyH
And question what of the night to beI
Stranger you and I '-
The woodbine leaves littered the yardJ
The woodbine berries were blueK
Autumn yes winter was in the windL
'Stranger I wish I knew '-
-
Within the bride in the dusk aloneM
Bent over the open fireN
Her face rose red with the glowing coalO
And the thought of the heart's desireN
-
The bridegroom looked at the weary roadP
Yet saw but her withinQ
And wished her heart in a case of goldR
And pinned with a silver pinQ
-
The bridegroom thought it little to giveS
A dole of bread a purseT
A heartfelt prayer for the poor of GodU
Or for the rich a curseT
-
But whether or not a man was askedV
To mar the love of twoK
By harboring woe in the bridal houseW
The bridegroom wished he knewK
