A Soldier Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBACDDCEFFEGF

He is that fallen lance that lies as hurledA
That lies unlifted now come dew come rustB
But still lies pointed as it plowed the dustB
If we who sight along it round the worldA
See nothing worthy to have been its markC
It is because like men we look too nearD
Forgetting that as fitted to the sphereD
Our missiles always make too short an arcC
They fall they rip the grass they intersectE
The curve of earth and striking break their ownF
They make us cringe for metal point on stoneF
But this we know the obstacle that checkedE
And tripped the body shot the spirit onG
Further than target ever showed or shoneF
