Morality. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJHKLMNF| Evil itself may be but good disguised | A |
| As many a virtue now was once a vice | B |
| Or held to be such by the moralists | C |
| Or as even in the eyes of foreigners | D |
| Our virtues may be vices theirs to us | E |
| As vicious too We make us new laws still | F |
| And hold that finable and barred to day | G |
| That was but yesterday allowable | H |
| Our neighbours haply no such laws enact | I |
| And privilege what we make punitive | J |
| So right and wrong are still conditional | H |
| And there's no absolute morality | K |
| In all the world for conscience herself is | L |
| Full oft but Custom's creature whom he keeps | M |
| Who sees with him and hears with him and acts | N |
| As by his power of attorney still | F |
