As if He trod the phantom air | B |
Within a hushed eternity | C |
Dead worlds around Him everywhere | B |
No sign of life and God asleep | D |
All things absorbed in Him at last | E |
Nothing for Him to care for keep | D |
Since thought from everything had passed | E |
A mystic vision on its way | F |
His image filled the awful gloom | G |
As if His work were o'er for aye | A |
Himself His own creation's tomb | G |
As if when sleep fell on Him all | H |
Sensation with a tremor ceased | I |
As all things felt the weird recall | H |
And the gigantic strain released | I |
The worlds stayed still without a breath | J |
Entranced within the phantom air | B |
Since God had done with life and death | J |
And ta'en Himself from everywhere | B |
This was His Sabbath In the past | E |
'Tis said He rested for a day | F |
But this was a sleep that would last | E |
Since He had done with all for aye | A |
