Cleopatra. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDEFEFGHGHFIFI FJFJFKFKFLFL

The asp her baby on her breastA
She falls asleepB
Ever like Antony to restA
While Nile shall keepB
Its course and Egypt be a nameC
Whose utterance stirsD
The shadow on the Roman's fameC
His love and hersD
Out of the mire and mirth of TimeE
By thought removedF
The life that might have shone sublimeE
Nor unbelovedF
A doting mallard when her sailG
From Actium flewH
He knew her love was passion paleG
The sword that slewH
Ah even though her love was lustF
The swarthy QueenI
When her babe gave the mortal thrustF
A woman's mienI
Wore as her Circean eyes their lastF
Looked on the slaveJ
And with her fatal witchery passedF
Into the graveJ
She yet shall stand in Beauty's listF
A thing superbK
The Roman's light in Egypt's mistF
A lover's verbK
That through his moods and tenses tonedF
A royal wayL
And took Death rather than be loanedF
To Caesar's swayL
