At Love's Beginning. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFFGGHHIIJJ FFKKL| I might not have it then I might not yet | A |
| She was so near to me could I forget | A |
| She might be nearer There was in her eyes | B |
| What shall I say a hint of the sunrise | B |
| Of her heart's day would it then break on me | C |
| In my life's glory or should I but see | C |
| The malediction of that morning pour | D |
| Disaster on my heart for evermore | D |
| I did not know and all I was became | E |
| A hush a wonder I scarce breathed her name | E |
| Scarce dared to read her eyes too deeply lest | F |
| Wrath in their tenderness should be exprest | F |
| When suddenly love's lightning ran a streak | G |
| Up the white throat into the pallid cheek | G |
| Her eyes took wonder too and even thus | H |
| What we to either were revealed to us | H |
| Rose like God's heaven at once in such a way | I |
| For aye and her eyes fell as mine took sway | I |
| Upon the moment when she knew it all | J |
| And knew in knowing it beyond recall | J |
| Was the confession which her heart had made | F |
| With eyes not lips ere lips to mine were laid | F |
| That mystic moment when all she was drew | K |
| Out of herself as all that I was too | K |
| Emptied of self then found itself in her | L |
