Young Peggy. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCBCDEDE FGFGHCHC IEJEKLKL I MEMENONO

Tune Last time I cam o'er the muirA

I-
-
Young Peggy blooms our bonniest lassB
Her blush is like the morningC
The rosy dawn the springing grassB
With early gems adorningC
Her eyes outshone the radiant beamsD
That gild the passing showerE
And glitter o'er the crystal streamsD
And cheer each fresh'ning flowerE
-
II-
-
Her lips more than the cherries brightF
A richer dye has graced themG
They charm th' admiring gazer's sightF
And sweetly tempt to taste themG
Her smile is as the evening mildH
When feather'd tribes are courtingC
And little lambkins wanton wildH
In playful bands disportingC
-
III-
-
Were fortune lovely Peggy's foeI
Such sweetness would relent herE
As blooming spring unbends the browJ
Of surly savage winterE
Detraction's eye no aim can gainK
Her winning powers to lessenL
And fretful envy grins in vainK
The poison'd tooth to fastenL
-
IVI
-
Ye powers of honour love and truthM
From every ill defend herE
Inspire the highly favour'd youthM
The destinies intend herE
Still fan the sweet connubial flameN
Responsive in each bosomO
And bless the dear parental nameN
With many a filial blossomO
