Young Jamie pride of a' the plainB
Sae gallant and sae gay a swainB
Thro' a' our lasses he did roveC
And reign'd resistless king of loveD
But now wi' sighs and starting tearsE
He strays amang the woods and briersE
Or in the glens and rocky cavesE
His sad complaining dowie ravesE

-
I wha sae late did range and roveC
And chang'd with every moon my loveD
I little thought the time was nearF
Repentance I should buy sae dearF
The slighted maids my torment seeE
And laugh at a' the pangs I dreeF
While she my cruel scornfu' fairF
Forbids me e'er to see her mairF
