Written With A Pencil, Over The Chimney-piece, In The Parlour Of The Inn At Kenmore, Taymouth. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFFGGHH IIJK LMNNOPQQ

Admiring Nature in her wildest graceA
These northern scenes with weary feet I traceA
O'er many a winding dale and painful steepB
Th' abodes of covey'd grouse and timid sheepB
My savage journey curious I pursueC
'Till fam'd Breadalbane opens to my viewC
The meeting cliffs each deep sunk glen dividesD
The woods wild scatter'd clothe their ample sidesD
Th' outstretching lake embosom'd 'mong the hillsE
The eye with wonder and amazement fillsE
The Tay meand'ring sweet in infant prideF
The palace rising on its verdant sideF
The lawns wood fring'd in Nature's native tasteG
The hillocks dropt in Nature's careless hasteG
The arches striding o'er the new born streamH
The village glittering in the noontide beamH

Poetic ardours in my bosom swellI
Lone wand'ring by the hermit's mossy cellI
The sweeping theatre of hanging woodsJ
Th' incessant roar of headlong tumbling floodsK

Here Poesy might wake her heav'n taught lyreL
And look through Nature with creative fireM
Here to the wrongs of fate half reconcil'dN
Misfortune's lighten'd steps might wander wildN
And Disappointment in these lonely boundsO
Find balm to soothe her bitter rankling woundsP
Here heart struck Grief might heav'nward stretch her scanQ
And injur'd Worth forget and pardon manQ
