Winter: A Dirge Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDDEFE EEGEBDHD IBEBEDDD

The wintry west extends his blastA
And hail and rain does blawB
Or the stormy north sends driving forthC
The blinding sleet and snawD
While tumbling brown the burn comes downD
And roars frae bank to braeE
And bird and beast in covert restF
And pass the heartless dayE
-
The sweeping blast the sky o'ercastE
The joyless winter dayE
Let others fear to me more dearG
Than all the pride of MayE
The tempest's howl it soothes my soulB
My griefs it seems to joinD
The leafless trees my fancy pleaseH
Their fate resembles mineD
-
Thou Power Supreme whose mighty schemeI
These woes of mine fulfilB
Here firm I rest they must be bestE
Because they are Thy willB
Then all I want O do Thou grantE
This one request of mineD
Since to enjoy Thou dost denyD
Assist me to resignD
