Verses On Castle Gordon Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABABCCCD EEFEFGGGD HHIHJGGGD

STREAMS that glide in orient plainsA
Never bound by Winter's chainsA
Glowing here on golden sandsB
There immix'd with foulest stainsA
From Tyranny's empurpled handsB
These their richly gleaming wavesC
I leave to tyrants and their slavesC
Give me the stream that sweetly lavesC
The banks by Castle GordonD
-
-
Spicy forests ever grayE
Shading from the burning rayE
Hapless wretches sold to toilF
Or the ruthless native's wayE
Bent on slaughter blood and spoilF
Woods that ever verdant waveG
I leave the tyrant and the slaveG
Give me the groves that lofty braveG
The storms by Castle GordonD
-
-
Wildly here without controlH
Nature reigns and rules the wholeH
In that sober pensive moodI
Dearest to the feeling soulH
She plants the forest pours the floodJ
Life's poor day I'll musing raveG
And find at night a sheltering caveG
Where waters flow and wild woods waveG
By bonie Castle GordonD
