Fair fa' your honest sonsie faceA
Great chieftain o' the pudding raceA
Aboon them a' ye tak your placeA
Painch tripe or thairmB
Weel are ye wordy o' a graceA
As lang's my armB
-
The groaning trencher there ye fillC
Your hurdies like a distant hillC
Your pin wad help to mend a millC
In time o' needD
While thro' your pores the dews distilC
Like amber beadD
-
His knife see rustic labour dightD
An' cut you up wi' ready slightD
Trenching your gushing entrails brightD
Like onie ditchE
And then O what a glorious sightD
Warm reekin richE
-
Then horn for horn they stretch an' striveF
Deil tak the hindmost on they driveF
'Till a' their weel swall'd kytes belyveF
Are bent like drumsG
Then auld Guidman maist like to riveF
Bethankit humsG
-
Is there that o'er his French ragoutD
Or olio that wad staw a sowH
Or fricassee wad mak her spewI
Wi' perfect sconnerJ
Looks down wi' sneering scornfu' viewI
On sic a dinnerJ
-
Poor devil see him owre his trashK
As feckless as a wither'd rashK
His spindle shank a guid whip lashK
His nieve a nitD
Thro' bloody flood or field to dashK
O how unfitD
-
But mark the rustic haggis fedD
The trembling earth resounds his treadD
Clap in his walie nieve a bladeD
He'll mak it whissleC
An' legs an' arms an' heads will snedD
Like taps o' thrissleC
-
Ye pow'rs wha mak mankind your careJ
And dish them out their bill o' fareJ
Auld Scotland wants nae stinking wareJ
That jaups in luggiesH
But if ye wish her gratefu' pray'rJ
Gie her a HaggisH
