The Wounded Hare Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBA CDDC EFFE GHHG IJJI

INHUMAN man curse on thy barb'rous artA
And blasted be thy murder aiming eyeB
May never pity soothe thee with a sighB
Nor ever pleasure glad thy cruel heartA
-
-
Go live poor wand'rer of the wood and fieldC
The bitter little that of life remainsD
No more the thickening brakes and verdant plainsD
To thee a home or food or pastime yieldC
-
-
Seek mangled wretch some place of wonted restE
No more of rest but now thy dying bedF
The sheltering rushes whistling o'er thy headF
The cold earth with thy bloody bosom prestE
-
-
Perhaps a mother's anguish adds its woeG
The playful pair crowd fondly by thy sideH
Ah helpless nurslings who will now provideH
That life a mother only can bestowG
-
-
Oft as by winding Nith I musing waitI
The sober eve or hail the cheerful dawnJ
I'll miss thee sporting o'er the dewy lawnJ
And curse the ruffian's aim and mourn thy hapless fateI
