It was upon a Lammas nightA
When corn rigs are bonnieB
Beneath the moon's unclouded lightA
I held away to AnnieB
The time flew by wi' tentless heedC
Till 'tween the late and earlyB
Wi' sma' persuasion she agreedC
To see me thro' the barleyB
Corn rigs an' barley rigsD
An' corn rigs are bonnieB
I'll ne'er forget that happy nightA
Amang the rigs wi' AnnieB
-
The sky was blue the wind was stillE
The moon was shining clearlyB
I set her down wi' right good willE
Amang the rigs o' barleyB
I ken't her heart was a' my ainB
I lov'd her most sincerelyB
I kiss'd her owre and owre againB
Amang the rigs o' barleyB
Corn rigsD
-
I lock'd her in my fond embraceF
Her heart was beating rarelyB
My blessings on that happy placeF
Amang the rigs o' barleyB
But by the moon and stars so brightA
That shone that hour so clearlyB
She aye shall bless that happy nightA
Amang the rigs o' barleyB
Corn rigsD
-
I ha'e been blythe wi' comrades dearG
I ha'e been merry drinkin'B
I ha'e been joyfu' gatherin' gearG
I ha'e been happy thinkin'B
But a' the pleasures e'er I sawH
Tho' three times doubled fairlyB
That happy night was worth then a'I
Amang the rigs o' barleyB
Corn rigsD
