Sleep'st thou or wak'st thou fairest creatureB
Rosy Morn now lifts his eye-
Numbering ilka bud which natureB
Waters wi' the tears o' joyC
Now through the leafy woodsD
And by the reeking floodsE
Wild nature's tenants freely gladly strayF
The lintwhite in his bowerB
Chants o'er the breathing flowerB
The lav'rock to the sky-
Ascends wi' sangs o' joyC
While the sun and thou arise to bless the dayF

Phoebus gilding the brow o' morningG
Banishes ilk darksome shadeH
Nature gladdening and adorningG
Such to me my lovely maidH
When absent frae my fairI
The murky shades o' careI
With starless gloom o'ercast my sullen sky-
But when in beauty's lightJ
She meets my ravish'd sightJ
When thro' my very heartK
Her beaming glories dartK
'Tis then I wake to life to light and joyC
